Fermoy town council
April Press Releases
- DirectRoute scrounging on maintenance -Road company won’t even cut the grass Monday 27th April 2009
The Green Party Local Election candidate for Fermoy has urged the company charged with managing the Fermoy Bypass to improve their maintenance record. Speaking recently, Adam Douglas said that DirectRoute Ltd had no excuse for not keeping things in order as they are one of the most capital-intensive operations in the county, “In these dire economic conditions, I can just about understand it if the town council were unable to find funds to keep lawns mown. Yet in fairness to them, they’ve maintained a decent Allocation to cover public areas over the coming year. “DirectRoute, on the other hand, are raking in millions off hard-pressed motorists on the M8 and yet won’t so much as hire a strimmer. The simple facts are that tidy verges are more aesthetically pleasing, both for regular frequenters, and also importantly for tourists to our area this summer. The tidier an area looks, the more likely that tourists will be encouraged to return the following year and thereafter. This is why I would strongly urge DirectRoute to tidy things up, and properly. Meanwhile, Mr Douglas Also said that the recent Oil Spill at the Corrin Interchange justified his campaign launch contention that the medians at interchange roundabouts are far too wide, “Lorries and other HGVs approaching the junction are forced to swing out widely, even though virtually all of them are going straight through on the Old road, in one direction or the other. It is only a matter of time before a more serious accident occurs and I will keep on raising this issue until something is done to make the junctions less of an obstacle course for motorists“
